OLED :: The Future Light

Wednesday, 16 January 20130 comments

OLEDs are the future lights which will glow in your living rooms, bed rooms and wherever you want to integrate them in your furniture surfaces or onto walls. It time to say good bye to old and conventional light bulbs. These environmental friendly, thin, efficient, Organic Light Emitting Diodes emits impressive white light from its surface, which means it can be incorporated into various surfaces as said above.

OLED is the first-ever surface light; all other light sources before it are point lights, according to Dietmar Thomas of Philips’ Lumiblade. The company’s Creative Lab team based in Aachen, Germany has been working to improve OLED concepts and design integration. There are little Lumiblade OLED products on the market including a $3,447 LivingShapes interactive mirror and Philips Lumiblade single panels.

OLED will provide numerous opportunities to costumers where they will be able to inculcate lights which were not possible with the point lights. Thomas told Dezeen Magazine that, “In the far future, say five or 10 years or so, you’ll paint the wall with a color with OLEDs mixed into it, so when you apply a current, the whole wall lights up.”

In contrast to our old fashioned point lights OLED’s come in a variety of different shapes and size. They can even fit with straw and paper and due to its low operating temperature no iron sockets or fixtures will be required primarily any material can serve the purpose.
